Quentin Tarantino logró en 1994 el favor de la crítica y el público gracias a Pulp Fiction. Este largometraje, que consta de tres historias ambientadas en el mundo del hampa que se entrelazan, tiene como una de sus escenas más recordadas el baile de los personajes de Vincent Vega (John Travolta) y Mia Wallace (Uma Thurman), que participan en un concurso de twist.
Tarantino no ha ocultado nunca que esta secuencia está inspirada en otra de Bande à part, largometraje de 1964 dirigido por Jean-Luc Godard. En este filme, Odile (Anna Karina), Arthur (Claude Brasseur) y Franz (Sami Frey) bailan un madison.
Sin embargo, el homenaje de Tarantino a la cinta de la nouvelle vague no para ahí. El realizador de Reservoir Dogs creó en 1994, junto a otros cineastas, la productora A band apart. Hal Hartley, uno de los directores independientes más influyentes de los 90, también realizó su peculiar guiño a la escena del baile de Band à part en Simple Men (1992). Los aficionados pueden encontrar otras muchas pistas de la cinta de Godard en numerosas películas.

Las discotecas actuales han experimentado el empobrecimiento de los bailes, todo es homogéneo. La diferencia es necesaria. En los bailes también. Algún día hablaré de los bailes de Rufus Thomas.

Gracioso, porque la peli que da titulo a la entrada, en epocas de video (tiempos A), decidí grabarla, y al verla (Danzad,danzad malditos), cuando estaban en pleno concurso de baile, se acabó la cinta de video...nunca he sabido como acaba la peli.
Ohhh, que mala suerte. La película es muy buena, pero la novela en la que está basada es aún mejor: "¿Acaso no matan a los caballos?", de Horace McCoy. Muy recomendable. De todas formas, creo que es mejor que nunca sepas cómo acaba la historia. Es más misterioso.
